Topic:
Matt Machado plans to present on Concrete Block Pavers. This idea was initially developed when he was the City Engineer in Ripon. He will share insight on how the County is planning to make use of pavers in Stanislaus County. For a historical perspective a summary of the topic that was first presented in 2006 at an International Conference is attached on the MEC website. This paper provides the rationale for using interlocking concrete pavements as a city standard for the City of Ripon. Unfavorable experiences with asphalt subject to increasing amounts of truck traffic enabled the Ripon engineering department to develop and implement a city standard for concrete paver streets. The City now requires concrete paver streets for new developments. This investment is expected to lower municipal maintenance costs compared to asphalt. The approach may offer a model for other municipalities. See field notes for more information.
